3:15-4:00	Plenary Session Information Exploitation in the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) Dr. Dominic Davies, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), Ministry of Defence (MoD), United Kingdom Session Summary: The availability and quantity of S&T information has exploded over recent decades resulting in many people suffering from "Information Overload." Efficient and effective management of information is required to enable retrieval of the right information for exploitation in the delivery of research and advice to the defence enterprise. The quality and timeliness of the information delivery will also be improved, as well as enabling cost savings. This presentation will discuss the range and utility of information sources which are used to support the work of the scientists and technologists of Dstl. The presentation will explain how the Knowledge Management and Exploitation Group works with them to reduce "Information Overload" and to ensure that as much relevant information as possible is available for exploitation in the delivery of the research. Examples of information products created by the Group will be discussed. These will show typical strategies which can be used to ensure that the researchers in the Laboratory can easily maintain their current awareness within their specialist area. The presentation will demonstrate how analysis can be used to support decision making and focus learning. Knowledge Management and Exploitation (KME) is a challenging socio-technical domain in which to work. The tools and competencies needed by people working in this field will be discussed and some of the activities the Group has undertaken will be used to suggest ways in which KME may be achieved. Learning/Training Objectives: The value of Information Management and Exploitation is potentially so high that a dedicated team of professionals with the right resources and tools to support this activity has significant benefit to an organization. "Information Overload" is a real effect of the Information Age, but there are ways of managing and reducing its impact. Effective Knowledge and Information Management and Exploitation are immensely complicated to achieve and dependent on people not information technology.
4:00-4:15	Plenary Session User Council Overview Ms. Donna McDonald, User Council President, Johns Hopkins University Session Summary: The User Council serves as a liaison between DTIC and its user community, operating independently to provide feedback and advice to DTIC on the community’s concerns. This overview of the User Council will provide insight on how the User Council expedites the flow of information between the user community and DTIC. Current User Council Members and 2011 nominees will also be introduced. Learning/Training Objectives: Gain awareness of the User Council’s unique role in representing the DTIC user community. Meet the User Council Members who represent you and identify networking avenues to further share your user experience.

8:45-9:15	Plenary Session DTIC Update Ms. Helen Q. Sherman, Director, User Services, DTIC Session Summary: Change is constant. This session will recap DTIC highlights, achievements, and initiatives planned or implemented since the 65th anniversary event a year ago. As usual, this session has the information you will want to know. Learning/Training Objectives: Learn about DTIC sources with potential for your organization. Consider ways to support your personal interests and responsibilities. Participate in one or more of DTIC’s collaborative products and services.
9:15-9:30	Plenary Session Customer Centric Seamless Registration Mr. James Fletcher, Chief, Registration & Marketing Division, DTIC Ms. Twilla Miller, Registration Team, DTIC Session Summary: Get a quick verbal and visual introduction to and explanation of DTIC’s new seamless registration system, and learn about some of the changes coming soon, such as the federal government initiative, and SIPRNET Registration. Attendees will be advised on setting up a proper password, and they will also be provided a list of useful links (URLs). Learning/ Training Objectives: Experienced users will supplement their understanding of account renewal, password information, policy changes, and useful links. New users will become aware of policy changes, setting a password, useful links, and why it’s important to renew their accounts.

DTIC Online Public Search Ms. Phyllis Levine, STINET Management Division, DTIC Mr. Kapin Ferguson, STINET Management Division, DTIC Session Summary: Search and DTIC are practically synonymous, from DROLS to STINET to DTIC Online. A beta version of the new public search at http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/beta.html features a redesign enabling full-text searching. This session spotlights some features such as clarifying the submitted spelling (Did you mean…?), databases/collections searched and search tips. Learning/Training Objectives: Learn to narrow results, recognize features in your results, and other techniques for finding/retrieving the results you need. Hear about the timelines and plans for future development for this service, accessible without logging in.

DTIC Online Classified Search Mr. Andrew Pedrick, Instructor, Current Awareness Team, DTIC Ms. Diane Schnurrpusch, Reference and Retrieval Team, DTIC Session Summary: DTIC Online Classified merges DTIC Online SIPRNET, Classified STINET, and Classified TEMS (Total Electronic Migration System: IAC document database) into a single search. This session will take a quick look at capabilities and functionality, available information resources, site navigation, and future plans. This session will provide an overview of DOAC’s information resources, site navigation, search capabilities and functionality. Essential information will be presented regarding research support, free documents for downloading or printing, and document orders. 1:15-1:45	Plenary Session DoDTechipedia: The DoD S&T Wiki for Communicating and Collaborating Ms. Karen Nimerick, Instructor, Current Awareness Team, DTIC Ms. Candy Parker, Lead Instructor, Current Awareness Team, DTIC Session Summary: DoDTechipedia is a collaborative encyclopedia on scientific and technical topics. The wiki format facilitates communication across the DoD and federal community to help avoid duplicate research, reduce costs, and promote more rapidly implemented technological solutions to benefit the warfighter. This session will provide an overview of this tool with emphasis on how to contribute content, navigate the site, and use key features. 2:20-2:30	Plenary Session DTIC Boot Camp: Put DTIC In Your Toolkit Mr. Howard Brande, Marketing Team, DTIC Ms. Charlene Madaffer-Meehan, Team Leader, Marketing Team, DTIC Session Summary: DTIC Boot Camp is a one-day, interactive workshop for customers to learn how to get the most out of DTIC’s Suite of Services to meet their science and technology information needs. It provides training on DTIC Online Access Controlled (DOAC), DoDTechipedia and Aristotle. DTIC’s team of experienced instructors will help you learn how to leverage these tools to maximize your time and resources. DTIC Boot Camp is offered at no charge at DTIC Headquarters in Fort Belvoir, VA, or DTIC instructors can come to your location. Learning/Training Objectives: Understand the benefits of using DTIC’s training opportunities. Identify how to participate and/or arrange DTIC training away from Fort Belvoir.
2:30-2:45	Plenary Session DoDTechSpace: Connecting with the Warfighter Mr. Dave Long, Team Leader, Current Awareness and COCOM Support, DTIC Ms. Christine Barrett, COCOM Support, DTIC Session Summary: DoDTechSpace, a new interface hosted by DTIC, is a Facebook/LinkedIn/MilBook type collaborative tool on the SIPRNET for the Combatant Command Science & Technology Community (CSTC). This session will take a quick look at the features and benefits of DoDTechSpace. Learning/Training Objectives: After attending this session, you should be able to: Understand the basic functionality of DoD TechSpace. Use the new Web site to collaborate in locating science and technology solutions for the warfighter.

3:15-3:30	Plenary Session DTIC Information Collection: Submit Technical Reports to Benefit DoD Research Mr. Jack Rike, Information Collection Division, DTIC Session Summary: DTIC encourages everyone in the Defense community to participate in the Science and Technical Information Program (STIP) by submitting all appropriate materials for inclusion in our Technical Reports (TR) database. Come learn what the submission requirements and procedures are for getting your reports into the DTIC TR Collection. Learning/Training Objectives: Learn the requirements for correctly marking your document for DTIC submission. Learn how to electronically submit your documents.
3:30-3:45	Plenary Session Coming Soon: The New Unified R&E Database (URED) for Research in Progress Ms. Michelle Seaward, Chief, Information Analysis and Technical Support, DTIC Ms. Julia Foscue, Information Collection Division, DTIC Session Summary: ASD(R&E) and DTIC are collaborating to produce the Unified Research & Engineering Database (URED). Completion of this effort will improve both submission and access to R&E project information. URED will include a unified data call, simplified user interface, and analysis tools that should reduce the workload for researchers and labs. Learning/Training Objectives: Learn about the databases included in the first stage of the project. Find out about the improved tools for users. Get more detail about the timeline and advantages for users.
3:45-4:00	Plenary Session DTIC's Independent Research & Development (IR&D) Collection: News on DoD's Only Collection of Industry R&D Mr. Dave Hyman, Information Collection Division, DTIC Session Summary: DTIC hosts a unique collection of R&D information: proprietary Industry R&D efforts. Find out what’s new, and better, for DoD IR&D collection users and what new initiatives are underway to enhance the value of this distinct collection which can benefit many across the DoD S&T Enterprise. Learning/Training Objectives: Update status of the IR&D collection and provide users with helpful information about it in DOAC. Discuss recent updates to the DoD IR&D Program Web site. Highlight initiatives for improvements to both the IR&D data collection process and the IR&D information dissemination functionality.

Do you know how to use STI? How to protect it? Come to a session that will fill in the blanks and cover the information needed to interact in the 21st century DoD scientific and technological world.
